Theresa Saulin: Night Is A Girl

Apr 1 - May 1, 2011

Opening Reception: Fri, Apr 1, 6 – 10 pm

PHILADELPHIA- Tiger Strikes Asteroid is pleased to announce the opening of its March exhibition, “Night is a Girl”, a solo exhibit of recent sculpture and drawings by Theresa Saulin.

Theresa Saulin received her MFA from the University of the Arts and her BFA from the Moore College of Art and Design. Recent acitivities include a solo exhibition at Finlandia University in Michigan and group exhibitions at Rowan University, Moore College of Art and Design and the Society Hill Synagogue in Philadelphia.

In his essay for the exhibit Michael Macfeat notes:
“We encounter what resembles a coral bed but upon further examination it bears a family resemblance to an unholy marriage of disparate elements. These resemble the exo-skeletal remains of an impossible and somewhat harrowing symbiosis of human organs hosting parasitic natural accretions of coral and wood combined with the impossible sprouting of the limbs and heads of infant humans. One can imagine Mary Shelley creating this fictional aquatic homunculus, the bed of a bizarre coral colony known only through its calcified remains. In its animate state it would be a frightening experience for the scientist encountering this undersea Frankenstein’s monster. Perhaps it is an act of mercy to only consider the traces it left behind.”

The exhibition will be up for the month of April, 2011 with an opening reception on April the 1st and a second reception to coincide with Gallery Night in Philadelphia of April 15, 2011 as well.
