PHILADELPHIA – Tiger Strikes Asteroid is pleased to announce the opening of No Objective, an exhibition with new work by Lisha Bai, Ivin Ballen, Skyler Brickley, Ethan Greenbaum, and David Scanavino, organized by Jenny Jaskey.

No Objective brings together artists that focus on the abstract aesthetic vocabulary of everyday life, from design and advertising strategies to vernacular architecture and the urban environment.  Much of the work in the exhibition utilizes materials that mimic the emphemerality of our throw-away culture in its purview.  Sand, newspaper pulp; cardboard and tape are reconditioned in paintings and sculptures that either comply ironically with the provisional nature of their source material, or imaginatively transcend its corporeal reality.

All the artists included in this exhibition are associated with the milieu of the greater New York art community, and enter the concept of this exhibit from various directions. Bai, Brickley and Scanavino, for example, utilize suspect patterns in their investigation of everyday materiality; Greenbaum and Ballen on the other hand, have some fun at the expense of the often self-conscious requisitioning of ephemera by contemporary art.

Jenny Jaskey  is an independent curator based in New York. She formerly owned and directed Jenny Jaskey Gallery in Philadelphia.
