PHILADELPHIA

Caroline Santa: Future Past Imperfect

May 1 - 29 , 2009

Opening Reception: Fri, May 1, 6 - 10 pm

PHILADELPHIA – Tiger Strikes Asteroid is pleased to announce the opening of its May exhibition, Caroline Santa: Future Past Imperfect, featuring several new works on paper by Philadelphia-based artist Caroline Santa.

Caroline Santa uses a collection of photographs of world events occurring in her lifetime as the source for her works on paper. Stripping away the details of the source material, she pushes her forms into a gray space, emphasizing the potential for narrative, the potential for emotion, the potential for communication. What is left visible is the essence of the action or place-isolated, enhanced, transformed, buried, mutated.

Santa holds a BFA from the University of Delaware and an MFA from the University of Pennsylvania. In 2007, she was the recipient of the Charles Addams Prize, and was an Artist-inResidence in Pereira, Colombia. Her work has been exhibited at The Delaware Center of Contemporary Art, FLUXspace, The Jenny Jaskey Gallery, The University of the Arts, the galleries of The University of Pennsylvania, and The Lucy Tejada Cultural Center in Pereira, Colombia. Santa lives and works in Philadelphia.
