ABOUT THE PROJECT
“An Exchange of Shifting Atmospheres” is an exhibition that is part of a larger TSA/CDMX Exchange centered on how collaboration bridges the cities of Philadelphia and Mexico City. Developed since the beginning of the pandemic between five artist pairs working collaboratively in both places, and guided by a collaborative curator duo, the goal of this project is to facilitate the exchange of ideas between artists in two cities considered to be on the verge and two countries divided by both a physical and ideological wall. Throughout the last two years, the course of the collaborative conversations became about the growing challenges that we faced throughout an ever shifting pandemic-life. Over the course of two years, the participants have touched on themes that have affected us all regardless of the city and country. This exhibition has grown beyond its initial foundation of collaborative pairs, and has become a window into the mechanisms of coping, healing, growing.A second, expanded iteration of this exhibition will be shown in Mexico City in the Spring of 2023.
PROJECT EXPECTATIONS: A NOTE FROM THE CURATORS
We expect that this collaborative project will produce multiple outcomes and build a set of relationships that grow between both cities. Each artist pair has been connecting closely, and individually, each artist is a respected and important member of their creative community with an impressive and growing resume of exhibitions, projects, and connectivity. Together, the team of five artist pairs is a nucleus of future connectivity and knowledge. The artist pairs will also visit each city, connecting each other and integrating into the artists communities in each place. Artists will give talks, conduct studio visits with students, and take advantage of educational opportunities available.
