Adam Lovitz: VEGETABLE CIGARETTE

Aug 8 - Sep 21, 2019

Opening Reception: Thu, Sep 12, 6 - 9 pm

Tiger Strikes Asteroid is pleased to present VEGETABLE CIGARETTE,
a solo exhibition of detritus in painting and assemblage form, by Adam Lovitz.
Lovitz collects worn-down natural and human-made items from walks around the city, the woods, the sea, and at home. Their presence in the studio informs painting decisions that build toward the embodiment of terrestrial relic and rumination. The process of departing from a familiar origin and moving through an in-between state attracts new relationships and layers dynamic histories. Just as rot reimagines life into its next form, Lovitz considers the ever growing cosmic connection to all things. After all, we are made from the same stuff.
Much appreciation to the consultation of artist/curator, Ricky Yanas, and to the community of sun people who shared their reflections.

This is Lovitz’s first solo show with Tiger Strikes Asteroid, joining the collective in 2018. He exhibited in ‘Bedrock’, a group exhibition at TSA in 2016. Lovitz received his BFA from University of Delaware in 2008 and his MFA from Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in 2012. In recent years, select exhibitions include New Radicals at Cerulean Arts curated by Aubrey Levinthal, Alchemy Typology Entropy at Fleisher/Ollman Gallery curated by Alex Baker, Spring/Break Art Fair in NYC, and Satellite Art Show in Miami. Lovitz’s work has been reviewed in Two Coats of Paint, Title Magazine, The Philadelphia Inquirer, and Huffington Post.
