Sun You: Who Sells Color
Ella Dawn W-S: material accumulation(s) / practice time
Feb 8 - Mar 9, 2025
Opening Reception + Performance:
Saturday, Feb 8, 6 – 8pm
Tiger Strikes Asteroid New York is pleased to present Who Sells Color, a solo exhibition featuring new work by Sun You, alongside material accumulation(s) / practice time, a series of performances by Ella Dawn W-S, curated by Sunmi Yong.
Who Sells Color
I have been thinking about size in art. I produce art that accommodates life, avoiding excess size. I aim for a modest sublime without extreme transformation.
In my work, I prioritize flexibility and lightness. My work does not demand fixed production sites; it can be easily packed and spontaneously created within the spaces and materials at hand. For this exhibition I chose to go small, dotting the gallery with small polymer clay sculptures that leave ample room for viewers to wander and explore. At first glance, the exhibition may appear almost empty, but this is an invitation: to look more closely, to engage with the works one on one, to have an experience that is both intimate and deliberate.
The sculptures are the result of simple manipulations: clay is pulled, cut, scattered, flattened with a rolling pin, only using familiar domestic tools like a cake knife and Parchment paper. These sculptures are then baked in batches in my home oven, in Queens, NY; Seoul, South Korea, and Easton, PA.

material accumulation(s)/practice time, 2024
In conjunction with the wall sculptures of Sun You, Ella Dawn W-S will engage with the inverse center space of the gallery, the open floor, considering the smallness of a performative gesture as well as the legibility of its act within a public space, or a practice space, or a performance space.
Over the span of five weeks, Dawn W-S will engage with the gallery as a rehearsal room, revealing/developing pieces of her choreographic score one at a time, accumulating physical and movement material along the way. By placing her body in dialogue with You’s works, she will offer a continual gesture towards transformation, both concrete and obscure, through body-based practices. Collaborators will be invited to observe or engage in an ongoing way.
