Tiger Strikes Asteroid LA presents their first exhibition of new works by Brooklyn based painter Jason Mones entitled Force and Fumble opening on Saturday, June 11, 2016 from 6 to 8pm. The exhibition continues through July 2nd and is open to the public on Saturdays from noon to 5pm.

Mones uses the American narrative in his new paintings that uphold the belief of manifest destiny. It is this inherent myth of manifest destiny and the result of its immersion into the male psyche that has been a recurring theme within Mones’ work. Using heteronormative notions of masculinity, he intertwines both real and virtual scenarios to create a series of fumbling narratives. Men take center stage as provocateurs of chaos that bring humiliating and aggressive conflicts to the modern world. Using this method of painting derived from the imagination, each work plays with the associations of form and color all while striving to bring tragicomedy back to an uncomfortable place for the viewer.

Jason Mones was born in Norwalk, Connecticut in 1974. He lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. He received his BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in 1999 and his MFA from the Yale University School of Art in 2008. Mones has been included in several group exhibitions including the Queens Biennial, Queens Museum of Art; Fellows Exhibition, Provincetown Arts Museum; Red Herring, Fjord Gallery, Philadelphia; MIXTAPE, Studio 4, Brooklyn; Privacy Made Public, New Hope Arts Center, New Hope, PA; amongst others.
