Hyperlink and Tiger Strikes Asteroid Los Angeles are proud to present “Flat Rate”, an art exchange between artists working in the Rocky Mountain West and Southern California. Members of each artist collective were paired directly to exchange works of art to be exhibited and documented in one another’s homes. The only confines given were that the work be sent inexpensively by flat rate packaging through the United States Postal Service. Documentation of works in domestic spaces will be shared on social media, creating a digital exhibition installed inside the participating artists’ homes.

As we spend more time in our homes and less time in public spaces due to the global pandemic, we have experienced extended periods with our private collections. “Flat Rate” allows the participating artists to enjoy new work in their homes while granting each artist agency to create installations and exhibitions on their own. By displaying these works in our domestic spaces, participants bring new life to both the work and the home where they are exhibited. Art is often experienced in the home, and while many of us miss experiencing art in galleries and the public nature of art events, this exchange acknowledges the intimacy of experiencing and living with a work of art. This intimacy and the connections involved in the exchange will foster new ideas about collaboration the potential for future projects.
